South African Maskandi artist UQhoshangokwenzakwakhe, also known as Qhosha Sibisi, returns with a new album titled “Ungaqhoshi,” a 13-track project shaped by resilience, personal loss and his continued commitment to Maskandi music.
The album was completed after a difficult period in the singer’s life. Recording had originally been scheduled to begin on May 20, 2026, but the unexpected passing of his father, Mtholeni Sibisi, forced him to pause the project and focus on mourning and family responsibilities. Qhosha later returned to the studio after the mourning period and completed all 13 tracks despite describing the process as emotionally and financially challenging.
Ungaqhoshi is set to be officially launched at Albert Park in Durban on October 24, 2026, with Qhosha indicating that the album would be released shortly before the launch. A listening session held ahead of the release reportedly received a positive response from attendees.
The project continues the artist’s established Maskandi style, which combines traditional storytelling, culturally rooted vocals and themes drawn from real-life experiences. One of the songs connected to this album era is “Ibhola lamalunda,” featuring Shenge waseHlalankosi, which surfaced in September 2026 ahead of the full project.
Ungaqhoshi also follows a steady run of releases from UQhoshangokwenzakwakhe. His previous catalogue includes the 2022 album “Tears of Joy,” a 15-track project featuring collaborations with artists such as Luve Dubazane, Snothile Majola and Didiza Dubazane.
More recently, he released the album “Irisk” in 2024 and followed it with the “Door to Door” EP in 2025, making Ungaqhoshi his latest full-length return after a two-year gap between albums.
Beyond the music itself, Ungaqhoshi carries additional emotional weight because of the circumstances surrounding its creation. Completing the album after the loss of his father turns the project into more than just another release, reflecting determination and the need to keep moving forward despite personal hardship.
Overall, UQhoshangokwenzakwakhe’s “Ungaqhoshi” album is a deeply personal Maskandi project that combines traditional South African musical identity with perseverance and lived experience. With 13 tracks, it marks another significant chapter in Qhosha Sibisi’s career and continues the catalogue of an artist who remains firmly rooted in Maskandi storytelling.
